What’s your journey been like as an artist?

I began my artistic journey as a creative writing student attending UW-Madison. Most of my compositions are poetry and prose along with a few fictional short stories. I journal and attend writing workshops in my free time and have recently started getting involved with community theatre. I debuted in my first production this summer through Rotate Theatre and look forward to continuing my artistic journey in Madison.

Ghosts come in many forms and from various cultural backgrounds. Do you think you will incorporate your culture into your portrayal of different ghostly entities?

My portrayal of ghostly entities will be inspired by midwestern American culture and my love of horror films growing up.

Are there artists who have had a significant impact on your creative journey?

The artist who had the most significant impact on my creative journey is Stephen King. His ability to habitually author so many haunting novels with such detailed character development is inspiring. My favorites include The Dark Tower Series and The Stand.

Are there any specific historical events or haunted locations that have served as inspiration for your piece?

There are several spooky historical places and figures who inspire me including the mystery of the disappeared colonists from Roanoke Island, Native American burial mounds, the eruption of Mount Vesuvius leaving bodies frozen in time under layers of volcanic ash, and the notorious Bloody Mary of England who burned several hundred protestants at the stake in just five years.

What are your thoughts on having only two weeks to write, rehearse, and perform an entire show?

I feel nervous excitement towards only allotting two weeks to write, rehearse, and perform an entire show. I am constantly stepping outside my comfort zone and facing my fears for personal growth and believe this opportunity with Are We Delicious? will be one of the greatest learning experiences of my life.
